Factory Stories

Revival from Business Closure

Nishikawa Seisakusho (predecessor of Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd.), founded in 1938 (Showa 13), grew rapidly with post-war reconstruction, employing approximately 100 people.

However, due to a certain issue, the company was forced to close its business.

My great-grandfather and his brother started Nishikawa Seisakusho. At that time, there were few factories capable of mass production of bolts, so they were responsible for manufacturing bolts for large-scale construction (bridge building projects).

However, a defect occurred in the delivered bolts.
Although the cause of the defect was not clearly identified, Nishikawa Seisakusho, which manufactured them, took responsibility and reportedly lost most of its assets, including its factory and equipment, due to substantial compensation, leading to business closure.

Later, in 1965 (Showa 40), Matsunosuke, Kota Nishikawa's great-grandfather, with the regret of the business closure in his heart, restarted as a sole proprietorship with limited equipment, technology, and the trust of his clients.

It is said that business relationships continue to this day with clients who trusted Matsunosuke's technology and reached out to him even after Nishikawa Seisakusho closed.

Hex Socket Parts Manufactured by Young Engineers

Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd. primarily manufactures hydraulic-related parts, mainly components for hydraulic dampers such as seismic dampers.

They come in various shapes, and we manufacture a wide range of products according to customer requests.

Among these various parts, hex socket parts are said to have been continuously manufactured since the company's founding.

The company once held patents related to hex socket machining, and remnants of that technology are still evident throughout their manufacturing processes.

Hex socket parts account for about 20% of our total products, which is not a large amount. However, since the number of companies capable of hex socket machining seems to be decreasing recently, I believe that our ability to still produce hex socket parts is one of our strengths.

All three members responsible for the manufacturing site at Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd., including Kota, who said this, are in their 20s.

These young employees are led by Shono, Kota's father and the third-generation president.

Manufacturing companies with long-inherited technologies often face the issue of an aging workforce.

However, at Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd., young employees are diligently inheriting the manufacturing philosophy and techniques that have been accumulated over time.

100% Inspection to Maintain High Quality

At Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd., to maintain product quality, both sampling inspection and 100% inspection are employed.
It is said that almost all damper parts, which are their main products, undergo 100% inspection.

For critical parts where even a single error could lead to a major problem, we conduct 100% inspection based on our own judgment.

For example, if a product involves fitting a holed part with a shaft part, they ensure all parts are fitted and checked before delivery.

This thorough commitment to quality might stem from Matsunosuke, the great-grandfather's bitter experience of business closure due to a single mistake during his time at Nishikawa Seisakusho.

A single mistake might mean there's no next time. That's why we conduct thorough inspections to prevent even one error.

The quality maintained by Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd. likely embodies a strong desire and sense of responsibility not to betray customer trust.

From Customer-First to Employee-First

During the era of Isao, Kota's grandfather and the second-generation president, it was thoroughly emphasized to prioritize customers and absolutely meet delivery deadlines.

My grandfather, when unable to produce a part for some reason, would personally find a partner company to somehow meet the deadline. I believe this was because he strongly inherited the founder Matsunosuke's desire to 'meet customer trust'.

By prioritizing customers in their business operations, they were able to gain solid trust from their clients.

Subsequently, Shono, the third generation who took over, began to focus on employees and emphasize creating a comfortable working environment.

My grandfather disliked introducing PCs and IT. My father had always wanted to introduce PCs but couldn't. So, when it became his turn, he proactively introduced PCs and a production management system to create a comfortable working environment.

Thus, the in-house production system became more digitized, and a comfortable working environment was established.

Ease of Work Improves Product Quality

Even though the management policy shifted from customer-first to employee-first, their attitude towards customers has not changed.

I believe that high quality and meeting delivery deadlines are not so much our strengths as they are standard practice.

The customer-first approach cultivated since its founding has already taken root as a standard culture within Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd.

Furthermore, production management systems introduced to create a comfortable working environment contribute to further quality improvement.

In the data containing product information, when a defective product occurs, the cause and countermeasures are recorded to prevent the same mistake from happening again, and points to be careful about during processing are also recorded and shared.

On the tablets held by the on-site staff, all drawings and cautionary notes can be checked.
This allows for seamless handover of processing even if it was previously handled by a different person.

This leads to maintaining stable high quality.
Furthermore, since anyone can manufacture with the same quality, it leads to efficient work distribution and meeting delivery deadlines.

The know-how accumulated through digitalization will become a significant asset for Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd. in the future.

From a "Manufacturing Company" to a "Value Delivery Company".

Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd.'s corporate philosophy is: 'Value beyond products. A bright future through challenges.'

We aim to be a company that not only manufactures what customers request but also provides value that exceeds expectations.

Furthermore, while they have primarily focused on turning, they want to challenge themselves with different types of machining by introducing new machinery such as machining centers and metal 3D printers.

By doing so, they aim to break away from a single-company dependent management structure and envision a bright future.

Moreover, they want to expand their network and build relationships where they can mutually assist and resolve issues when difficulties arise.

During my university days, three laboratories and a venture company jointly pursued a research theme. I believe that interacting with various people, exchanging advice and ideas, and achieving things together is crucial for better manufacturing.

Nishimatsu Seisakusho Co., Ltd., which has built its history by overcoming hardships, may undergo significant changes with the new challenges of the younger generation.
