Under the New President, Towards a New Stage with Young Talent
Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd., founded in 1983, appointed Masaki Adachi as its third president in May 2024.
And under the new president, it has begun to evolve towards a new stage.
Keisuke Kanda of the Sales Department, who joined the company approximately 15 years ago, and Daiki Miyamoto of the Technology Department, who joined approximately 10 years ago, both of whom form the core of Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd. and will support the company alongside Adachi, shared their thoughts on their work and the company's strengths.
From Different Fields to the World of Heat Treatment
Both Kanda and Miyamoto entered the world of manufacturing from completely different fields.
Miyamoto said that seeing casting on TV was his trigger.
“I saw iron being heated and hammered to harden it, and I thought it was incredibly cool. After learning about the field of heat treatment, I started researching it through videos and other means.”
Miyamoto had been studying computer-related subjects in the Department of Information Science, but in his third year of university, he found a job opening at Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd. and applied.
“After the interview, I received a job offer on the same day. So I decided to join this company and dropped out of university.”
Meanwhile, Kanda joined the company when he was 18.
After graduating from high school, Kanda worked as a chef at a restaurant, but he said he left after about a month due to a poor relationship with his boss.
Then, he saw the phrase ‘Everyone starts work together, everyone finishes work together’ and a photo of seemingly close colleagues in the job advertisement for Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd., and decided to apply.
“I prioritized a fun workplace over the job description. However, I also had some doubts, thinking that the job advertisement might be misleading.”
In fact, when he joined, the job advertisement was not misleading, and his seniors took good care of the young Kanda.

Internal Communication Fosters Technology
In the Sales Department, where Kanda belongs, colleagues communicate with each other through private gatherings like drinking parties and golf.
“It's not so much that everyone is close with everyone, but rather that friendly groups have formed. Because everyone communicates well, they can help each other when something comes up.”
This closeness is also true for the Technology Department, where Miyamoto belongs.
No special rules are set.
When someone starts talking, interested colleagues naturally gather, forming a circle of conversation.
They have built such relationships.
“The work in the Technology Department sometimes involves individual tasks, like individual skills. But ultimately, the goal is the same.
Because teamwork functions well, we can proceed smoothly with work until delivery.”
Sales Strengths: Communication Skills and Technical Expertise
Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd.'s communication skills are also alive in sales.
“In sales, each person has their own assigned route. We visit existing customers, communicate thoroughly, and build trust.”
Each salesperson thoroughly engages with and communicates with their assigned customers.
The relationship between sales and customers can even be felt within the Technology Department.
“When I receive a call from a customer, I sometimes hear the salesperson having a pleasant conversation with them. The relationship between the salesperson and the customer is so good that it comes across even over the phone.”
The Sales Department's strength is not just communication skills.
“After completing their routes, sales staff also work on-site. Because they thoroughly understand the on-site operations, they can immediately provide concrete proposals for customer consultations.”
Because sales staff understand the on-site operations, they can not only provide concrete proposals and quick responses but also recommend the company's technological and quality strengths to customers with greater conviction.
Words spoken with conviction will likely have stronger persuasive power with customers.

Specializing in CVD Coating
Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd. receives dies/molds from customers and performs heat treatment and coating. A major feature is its adoption of CVD coating.
Currently, the mainstream method is PVD, which involves physical processing.
However, PVD is a process that applies a film to the surface of the die/mold, so it cannot achieve high adhesion strength.
On the other hand, with CVD, coating is performed by applying high heat of about 1000 degrees Celsius to chemically react the die/mold base material with a titanium film.
Therefore, the adhesion strength to the die/mold is high.
Furthermore, they carefully polish and deliver the dies/molds.
Because of the high adhesion strength and careful polishing that improves the die/mold's slipperiness, they receive high praise from customers.
Accumulating Data to Enhance Precision
Because CVD involves high heat, distortion and dimensional changes occur in the die/mold.
Although CVD is often avoided due to dimensional changes, Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd. boasts high precision while employing the CVD method.
“We measure dimensions and collect data at each stage of the process. By collecting and accumulating almost all data, we can improve dimensional precision based on that data.”
Furthermore, stable quality is achieved by leveraging internal communication skills.
“When we look at data and don't understand the cause of a change, we consult and investigate the cause. The information obtained is then shared with other staff.”
It is precisely because of smooth communication that consultations and sharing can be carried out daily.
The results obtained are also shared with sales, and utilized to solve customer problems.

What Will Be Carried On and What Will Be Changed
“I believe our technology is amazing. Therefore, I want customers who have not yet engaged with our company to try us out at least once.”
Kanda, in his sales role, wants more people to know about Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd.
He is confident that if customers try their services once, they will experience their technical capabilities.
“Soon after joining, I saw people involved in processes where distortion occurred immediately check, adjust, and correct it. And seeing them quickly share the results, I realized that this is our technology. I want to continue to pass on this technology and make it known to many customers.”
While inheriting the strengths built over time, changes are also occurring.
Until now, all dimensional data and other information were stored on paper, but they are now promoting DX (Digital Transformation) by introducing drawing management software and other tools.
This initiative is being led by Miyamoto, who majored in Information Science during his university years.
“Once the large volume of stored documents is gone and the walls become visible, I think it would be nice to hang pictures on them. I hope we can dispel the image of a dirty and cluttered factory and transform it into a smart factory that people describe as clean and stylish.”
Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd. is growing at an accelerated pace, with an increasing number of new employees and a rejuvenation of its workforce.
Adachi Heat Treatment Research Institute Co., Ltd. has begun to ascend to a new stage and evolve, inheriting good culture and technology, with each individual becoming top-tier, and growing into an organization that contributes to life.
